Arthritis
Foundation

The
Arthritis Foundation in Lancaster needs leadership
volunteers to help plan the May 2, 2009 Arthritis Walk –
sub-committees include Sponsorship, Team Recruitment,
Marketing & Public Relations, Logistics, Dog Walk – dogs get
arthritis too. The Arthritis Walk is a non-competitive,
volunteer driven, staff supported signature event which
happens nationwide to raise funds and awareness to fight one
of the nation’s leading causes of disability. The Arthritis
Walk features a 3-mile and 1-mile course with activities for
the whole family, dogs included. More people than ever
before are being diagnosed with arthritis, 46 million, even
children. Meetings are held monthly beginning in September
with an emphasis on 1 hour to complete business.
The Arthritis Foundation in Lancaster also is looking for
volunteers to help plan the December 14 Jingle Bell Run for
Arthritis.
HealthAmerica is again the “title” sponsor. Committee
structure is similar to the Spring Arthritis Walk, but
Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis is a competitive 5K event with
a 1 mile fun Walk/Run. Promoted as a family holiday event
to raise funds and increase awareness of arthritis, Meetings
are presently the 3rd Monday of the month,
6:30pm.

Junior
Achievement (JA)
invites business and community volunteers to teach its
high-quality programs in local classrooms. No teaching
background is necessary!
JA has partnered with local schools to bring business, economic
and financial literacy education to our students. A non-profit
organization funded by businesses, foundations and individuals,
JA is committed to preparing young people for the workforce by
educating them about economics, money management and free
enterprise. But we need business volunteers to present the
programs and we promise you’ll have fun!
Each
volunteer is provided with a kit full of lessons plans, visual
aids and activities and trained by JA staff to teach one of
several interactive, hands-on programs. There will be a
45-minute training session with JA staff, and, after that, the
time commitment is just 30 - 45 minutes a week for 5
weeks. It’s a small amount of time but it will have a
lasting impact on Lancaster County students. Won’t you join
over 370 volunteers who teach Junior Achievement programs to
over 9,000 students in Lancaster County? Share your business

Lancaster County

The Arc of Lancaster County
advocates for the full rights and participation of people with
intellectual and developmental disabilities. We provide
individual, educational, systems, and legislative advocacy. We
strive to break down barriers for people with intellectual
disabilities through our community education programs.
The Arc of Lancaster County is looking for people willing to
serve on our board of directors or as a volunteer on one of its
committees: Development, Membership/PR, Advocacy. Board meetings
are held the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at 630
Janet Avenue. Terms are 3 years in length. Committees meet as
needed, at least once quarterly. The Arc has been supporting
people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and
their families since 1962 through our advocacy, family support,

The Hand's WOODS
Foundation

The Hand’s WOODS Foundation, a
nonprofit organization, was formed to assist in the development
and continuing support of the Hand’s W.O.O.D.S. Project; to
include facilitating community development and support,
development, implementation and support of environmental and
supporting curriculum, and fundraising activities.
The Hand’s WOODS Project utilizes and manages a 9 acre woodlot
located behind Hand Middle School and owned by Lancaster County,
PA with the purpose of developing a Wild Outdoor Observatory
Designed by Students. The project currently involves students
from Washington Elementary and Hand Middle School.
The Foundation is currently in need of assistance from an
attorney to oversee Foundation activities. The Foundation also
needs an accountant to assist in establishing sound accounting
procedures . We are currently meeting as a board 1 Friday a
month at 10:00AM. We are beginning to write grants with city,
county and school district participation.

The Second Mile

The
Second Mile is seeking interested community volunteers to serve
on its Lancaster Chapter Board. Founded in 1977 by Jerry
Sandusky, former Defensive Coordinator for Penn State Football,
The Second Mile is a private non-profit organization that serves
over 100,000 Pennsylvania children through nine prevention,
intervention and community based programs. The Lancaster
Chapter Board of The Second Mile is comprised of 24 professional
and community volunteers who assist in implementing programs
that serve at-risk Lancaster County youth and in securing
resources for Second Mile programs in Lancaster County. For

Seeking Board
Member with ties to the Latino Community in Lancaster.
Share of Lancaster, a local affiliate of the National Share
Office, is dedicated to providing comfort and support to parents
who have experienced the death of a baby through miscarriage,
stillbirth, early infant death or SIDS. In Lancaster County,
Share provides the following services: education of local
hospital personnel regarding more sensitive protocols for
handling the death of a baby, a no-cost Share burial program, a
24 hour answering service for bereaved parents and two support
groups run by trained facilitators.
As an established 501(c)3 organization, Share is interested in
volunteers for Board level service and Special Event committee
service with ties to the Latino community in Lancaster. Board
level candidates who are bi-lingual are sought to assist the
Share organization. Special event committee volunteers would be
involved in the Annual Dinner and the Walk to Remember, Share's
two primary fundraising activities to support the mission of the

Branch,630 Janet Avenue seeks leadership volunteers for Advisory
Board - meeting 2nd Wednesday every other month, 7:30AM - must
be active with a Foundation leadership need and promote
Foundation in community and help fill volunteer needs. Special
events such as Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis (December),
Arthritis Walk (May), APPLAUSE! (March) are organized by
committee volunteers meeting monthly 6-8 months prior to event

Lancaster Area
Victim Offender Reconciliation Program (LAVORP)

LAVORP is seeking
a Board Member with interest in Criminal and Juvenile Justice
and a background in Fund Development and Special Events.
LAVORP practices
Restorative Justice by addressing the harm that comes from
conflicts. This is done through a volunteer cadre of 76
Facilitators who work with victims and offenders of juvenile
crime. Face to face meetings are arranged where youths hold
themselves accountable, learn the impact of their actions and
make amends. Victims can work towards closure, tell of their
experiences (part of healing), get answers to their questions
and have their needs met. Recidivism rate is only 17% and
agreements with victims have a 95% completion rate. Future uses
of Restorative Justice will include working with adult
offenders, truancy mediation, restorative practices in schools
and peacemaking circles.
LAVORP presently has a
volunteer Board of Directors comprised of eleven members from
diverse backgrounds. Existing Committees are Business Relations,
Congregational Relations, Public Relations, Youth Aid Panel
Relations and Human Resources
